Barbara Heinzen’s clients have used scenarios and scenario processes to accomplish many purposes. For some, it has been a tool for identifying critical uncertainties and their possible outcomes. Others have used scenarios to rehearse their responses to crisis. Scenario building allowed some companies to improve internal cohesion and skills. Still others have used scenario analysis to understand competing business cultures that were altering the competitive landscape. In civil society, scenario processes have created a neutral space for public dialogue, while environmentalists have used scenarios to understand the long term consequences of society’s management of ecological challenges.

Increasingly, in business, government and civil society, scenario processes are becoming the first step in understanding and working with systemic change.
